Derek says: The Goth St. Pauly Girl 24 Feb 05 // 10:43PM

The first new SF Story in one and a half years: The Goth St. Pauly Girl: "I look up from my coffee and - oh my God - there's this woman."

Derek-SF says: Mondays hate me 18 Aug 03 // 6:26PM

So this is two bad day stories in a row. A trend? I hope not.

New in San Francisco Stories: The little voice: "Someday I'm going to start listening to that little voice. Also, I'm going to stay in bed every Monday."

Derek-SF says: Screw it. I'll walk. 7 Aug 03 // 11:49AM

When life hands you a bad day, at least you can make a story out of it.

New in San Francisco Stories: One of those days: "My daydream is interrupted when the grumpy Asian woman gets up to leave. I look up and see the Muni driver in the car. Never a good sign."

Derek says: I should have listened. 22 Jul 03 // 12:35AM

You think I need to be physically threatened to write a new SF Story these days? Maybe not, but it doesn't hurt. Much.

Please take a gander at The Silly Person, a new story from San Francisco. And remember to read your horoscope.

Derek says: Oh my aching archives 27 Mar 03 // 9:01AM

San Francisco Stories ended its intermission today with two stories (that had previously appeared on my home page, but still): The Secrets of Cole Valley and Oh My Aching Legs.

There's also a nice mention of the SF Stories book over at MisterSF.com, which also appears in the San Francisco Independent today. If you trip over it on your doorstep, give it a read!

Derek-SF says: SF Stories, the book! 6 Sep 02 // 8:47PM

To commemorate the fourth birthday of SF Stories, the kind folks at So New Media (a punk lit book company that "puts the best web writers on paper"), have compiled the best of SF Stories into a book, which is now for sale. It even includes a story that was never on the website. So I hope you'll consider picking up a copy. Makes a great gift!

Derek-SF says: Throwaways 23 Aug 02 // 12:54PM

It's easy to tell stories that make you look like a hero. It's much harder to tell the stories of the times when you feel like a shmuck. This is one of those stories. New in SF Stories: Throwaways, by Derek Powazek.

Derek-SF says: July 4 in San Francisco 5 Jul 02 // 12:56PM

"I've been watching fireworks there for years, but last night was different. And not just because it was clear." Meditations on the the slow glimmering descent in San Francisco Stories.

Derek-SF says: New in SF Stories 21 Jun 02 // 5:49PM

"When I first met Stephan, it was after a long trip, when he greeted me from my own bathroom, covered in paint, grinning a toothless grin and manhandling my cat. I immediately pegged his accent as Russian, and his demeanor as pesky.

I was wrong. The accent is Transylvanian."

Read the rest of America Dreaming, the newest addition to San Francisco Stories.

Derek-SF says: Stories from the park 3 May 02 // 11:04AM

New in SF Stories: Stories from the park: "The park changed from a faraway place I visited once a month to a daily haunt. And I changed, too."

Derek-SF says: new in sf stories 23 Mar 02 // 4:32PM

"One of the park people, Dave, is an aspiring songwriter. Unfortunately, he only practices when he's drunk." Read Singing in the rain, new in San Francisco Stories.

"A woman came in to talk into the phone to the obese female cop about her lousy ex-husband who'd sucked all the money out of a joint account. Thing is, they weren't quite divorced yet. Nobody happy ever steps foot in this room, I thought."

Laundry Day, a new SF Story.

Derek-SF says: New in SF Stories 19 Nov 01 // 10:14PM

Twenty-five cents and counting

"But now my children mocked me every time I walked into the Booksmith. Those two, still sitting there. Unloved. Unread. Unpurchased."

Derek-SF says: "They. Are. So. Small!" 30 Jul 01 // 12:24AM

"You think you know people. Adult people. People who can put together coherent sentences. And then you go out with two Chihuahuas on leashes and you see the world for what it really is."
