I encountered someone today, someone I don't meet often. Ever wanted to know what the definition of an ignoramus is? Here, go read the the latest at Dublinstories, called (for obvious reasons) The Ignoramus

Tom-Dublin says: Dublinstories rides again! 17 Mar 03 // 11:25AM

Running CityStories.com has meant I've not had a lot of time for my own part of the network. As a result, this has been a long time coming....

New in Dublinstories...

"When I look back at it now, I feel amused at my 3 year old self, knowing that I'd be less than thrilled were I to meet Charles Haughey today"

This is an old story from my childhood. Politics in Ireland were a lot more innocent (or maybe the electorate were a lot more naive) back when I had my experience of meeting the boss.

Tom-Dublin says: Dublin on 9/11/01 11 Sep 02 // 6:18PM

The events of one year ago sent shock waves around the world. We lost some of our own in New York that day. Other Dubliners who have emigrated to New York found themselves part of the rescue teams.

Dubliners are no strangers to terrorism. Amongst other attacks, the city had its own version of 9/11 on a small scale in 1974, when some terrorists planted car bombs in the city centre. Thomas Sheridan tells of his experience of the 1974 Dublin Bombings in After School Education.

"I guessed that they wanted the paper to roll a certain other form of weed. As it turned out, I had guessed correctly."

On the way home from Dublin city centre a couple of weeks ago, I made a late stop in the small hours of morning at a petrol station to buy some smokes. Check out my latest story!

Tom-Dublin says: "I notice two people." 5 Jul 02 // 5:01PM

Glen Moran discovers that Ireland has its own version of Bonnie and Clyde.

Tom-Dublin says: "It's the test" 19 May 02 // 11:24AM

New in Dublinstories...

"If there's one thing I hate about driving, it's the test"

I have tried and failed three times to pass my driving test. This new short story, The Test tells of this really lame non-achievement. Heh.

Tom-Dublin says: snapshots and associations 29 Jan 02 // 2:36PM

"My Dublin is a collage of snapshots and vague associations, of chance encounters and cinematic scenes."

Lisa Ann Cassidy feels Short-Changed.

After an unexpected hiatus of sorts, I'm very pleased to say that Dublinstories is back.

I'm even more pleased to say that I'll be speaking on local Dublin station Near FM this coming Thursday. The topic is going to be Dublinstories, the whole Citystories thing and personal web stuff in general. It should be "a bit of craic" as we say over here.

Tom-Dublin says: "A plane flew into the twin towers." 21 Oct 01 // 2:03PM

"Jaysus", I replied, "He must have been well pissed not to miss one of them."

Brendan Dolby writes about his experience of the 11th of September 2001in Nine-Eleven, Dublin.

Tom-Dublin says: The bottles were sealed with a soft foil lid 5 Sep 01 // 12:40PM

Returning writer Thomas Sheridan remembers how milk was delivered around the northside of Dublin in times past when he unearths A Glass From The Past.

And with that, I'm off on my holidays (holliers, as we say in Dublin), to San Francisco. More stories when I come back!

Tom-Dublin says: A View from Dublin Bay 29 Jul 01 // 5:13PM

"Sometimes, in the evening, I like to drive around Howth Head....feeling that need tonight, I get in the car. I know where I am going."
