Paul-Chicago says: Feeling the Pinch 9 Sep 02 // 5:09AM

"They were everywhere. Newly emerged from the great state universities of the Midwest, they arrived in mighty droves to descend upon their migratory home of East Lakeview. With the ease and grace of nobility, they roamed the streets, flitting in and out of Borders, Icebox, Chipotle, their newly-tanned limbs moving languidly in the shimmering heat, like the drying wings of butterflies."

A brand new tale at Chicago Stories: "The Pinch".

Paul-Chicago says: Two Sides to Chicago 5 Jul 02 // 4:18PM

It's hot. Humid. Sticky. Chicago is alive in the summer, and Chicago Stories is back with two new entries!

Jackie Fitzgerald's REAL Chicago takes us on a tour through Chicago's south side, while my story, That Smell, has to do with a peculiar odor on the El.

We're back - and it's your turn to tell your Chicago Story!

Paul-Chicago says: A Scary Sidewalk Find 14 May 02 // 5:47PM

"...Nevertheless, I didn't think much of it until later that day, when my girlfriend Jeani emailed me. 'I have to ask,' she said, 'did you see an embryo on the sidewalk this morning?!?'" Sidewalk Embryo, a brand-spanking new tale at Chicago Stories.

Paul-Chicago says: Chicago Stories in the Tribune 5 Mar 02 // 11:20AM

Chicago Stories got a writeup in a Chicago Tribune article, marking our first instance in the non-web press. (sniff, sniff) As a bonus, City Stories was mentioned:

"...we've got literary aspirations as well as Big Shoulders. Check out http://chicagostories.org, the local component of the Citystories.com project, a collection of sites featuring the (virtual) inky drippings of residents of a seemingly random assemblage [sic] of 18 cities (ranging from Shreveport to Utrecht to Manila) on three continents.

Paul-Chicago says: Love is in the Air 15 Feb 02 // 7:39AM

As the announcer noted that the train was on its way, a man came into my field of vision. He stopped about three feet to my left, and said, "Hey man, can I talk to you about something?" I turned and shot him a look - inadvertently, mind you - figuring that he was going to hit me up for some money, or a pony. I readjusted my face and said, "Sure, sure." Little did I know we'd have a deep conversation about love and devotion - on the El, no less.

Love is in the Air, new at Chicago Stories.

Paul-Chicago says: The SheEl Game 5 Dec 01 // 2:26PM

In my months of riding the Red Line, only once did I receive true entertainment onboard. Loud voices and - could that be? - applause. I looked over to my left, beyond the rows of anonymous backs-of-heads to find a man sitting in the center seat. His right hand balanced a folded Sun-Times, upon which were three small purple caps. That's right - he was playing the shell game. The SheEl Game, new at Chicago Stories.

Paul-Chicago says: A story from the bus stop 30 Sep 01 // 9:19AM

The cool autumn wind chilled my body as I walked to the bus stop on Clark and Foster. I sat on the faded grey-brown bench, and noticed the man at the other end. He had eight teeth. Tales from the Bus Stop, new at Chicago Stories.

Paul-Chicago says: It's right in this bag 25 Aug 01 // 10:35AM

"Hey, Mike, you might want to come down here... this guy just came by... and he just found this foot outside." oldgreedy's story of wildlife, feet, and an Uptown bookstore: Falcon's foot, new at Chicago Stories.

Paul-Chicago says: Greetings from Chicago! 31 Jul 01 // 8:36PM

What better way to start off a new City Stories site than with a tale of one's first visit to Chicago? "The tall buildings, the noises, the honking horns, the stoplights... it was a mishmash."

My First Time, new at Chicago Stories.
