There are two new stories in Seattle, Sleepless in Seattle and Andrew & My Handicap, and they both have to do with our reactions to people outside our normal circles: the homeless and handicapped. It's a more complicated issue, I think, than it seems. Personally, I've never been able to come to terms with how I should treat people less fortunate (monetarily, or otherwise) than myself. I could give them everything I have, and we could essentially trade places, but is this an answer to the problem? What's your answer? |
